Fun Stockings Fact:
On May 15, 1940, the first nylon stockings hit stores across the U.S. for the first time. Newly developed by DuPont, the nylons were made out of Polymer 6.6 (which itself is made up of chains of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, and oxygen) and were supposed to be stronger and less likely to run than their silk counterparts.
Women did line up for blocks to purchase the stockings made out of this wonder material. Five million pairs flew off the shelves on the first day.
